Michael Cage was selected in the first round of the 1984 NBA draft (#14 overall) by the Los Angeles Clippers, following a stellar four-year tenure at San Diego State University, where he compiled 1,846 points and 1,317 rebounds. Following his junior season (1982-1983), Michael Cage was named to the roster of the 1983 United State Men's Basketball Team for the Pan American Games, where his teammates included the incomparable Michael Jordan, as well as future NBA stalwarts Chris Mullin, Sam Perkins, Mark Price and Wayman Tisdale. However, he was only able to play in two games before being called home due to an illness in the family. During his senior season as a San Diego State University Aztec, the 1983-1984 campaign, Mr. Cage was named a consensus second-team All-American after averaging 24.5 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. In his fifteen-season NBA career (which culminated in the spring of 2000), Mr. Cage played for five teams - the Los Angeles Clippers, the Seattle Supersonics, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Nets. Rebounding was his forte. He wound up averaging more than 10 rebounds per game three times during his career, including a league-leading 13.0 per game during the 1987-1988 season, his last with the Clippers. Michael Cage finished his NBA career with 8,646 rebounds (7.6 per game) and 8,278 points (7.3 per game).
