Yuri Laptev

Baritone. Graduated from the Leningrad Conservatoire as a vocalist in 1982 and as a musical theatre Stage Director in 1986. With the Mariinsky Theatre since 1989 as a soloist and stage director. His repertoire includes Count Almaviva (La nozze di Figaro), Don Carlos (Betrothal in a Monestry), the Duke (The Miserly Knight), Nazarene (Salome), Prince Yamadori (Madama Butterfly) and Chirurgo (La Forza del destino. Son of the famous tenor, Konstantin Laptev (1904-1996) who had been appointed by the Emperor Tsar Nicholas II to the Imperial Choir and subsequently sang at The Mariinsky (Kirov) for over fifty years. His daughter Polina made her Mariinsky Theatre debut as one of the children in "La Forza del destino" in July 1998, keeping the family's artistic tradition alive and well.
