Cosima Lange was born in 1976 in Hamburg/Germany. Being a member of the children's choir of Hamburg State Opera, she was introduced to the variety of different cultures through many concert tours throughout her childhood, including Japan, Russia, USA and many European countries. Fascinated by these impressions, after finishing her A-levels she spent some time in Anglo-Saxon countries. It was through these travels that she eventually formed the idea to start career in filming: for her, it was a media that is greatly suited to reach people all over the world, and that can divide cultural bridges in entertaining people, in giving information, and transmit hopes and dreams. Back in Germany, she worked as first location scout manager assistant, production manager and she co-directed the program for Hamburg Filmfestival. From 1998 Cosima Lange studied film production at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. The main focus was "creative producing": production in close partnership with director and script-writer. During this time she produced various short films, and in 2003 was warded her degree with romantic-science-fiction-thriller Vakuum (2004) (production and script), which had great success at international film festivals and was shown on TV. 2005 she founded fliegende fische filmproduktion (later: fliegende fische creative pool) and realized her feature debut with Chamamé (2007) (documentary) - an intimate portrait of four musicians in Northeast Argentina. Since then she works as a freelance director, author and producer for cinema and television. Her documentary Hello I Am David! (2015) about the outstanding pianist David Helfgott had a remarkable theatrical release in Germany (30.000 visitors), Austria, Switzerland, Australia and Japan. Netflix bought the streaming-rights worldwide. The film was screened in German television on ARTE and ZDF. Ute Freund won "Best Camera" for Hello I Am David! (2015) Deutscher Kamerapreis). Cosima Lange lectures directing, story telling and documentary at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris and Filmuniversität Babelsberg.
