Philip Hutchinson comes from Hampshire, England, and has lived for over a decade in Guildford, Surrey. He runs the Castle Keep there during the summer and is behind the popular Ghost Tour of Guildford. It is because of this that The History Press approached him in 2005 to write 'Haunted Guildford', which sold out the first print run in two weeks and went on to be their best-selling book in the series. He went on to write two more books for them, 'Images of England : Guildford' in 2006 and 'Guildford Past and Present' in 2008. These last two are mainly of rare old photographs of the town as he owns a large personal archive. He is also an historian of true crime, particularly on the Jack the Ripper case. 'The London of Jack the Ripper Then and Now' (co-authored with Robert Clack) was published by DB Publishing in 2007 and is now in its third edition. It was also one of the first Ripper books to be available on Kindle and was even used as a prop in the ITV drama 'Whitechapel'. He also wrote 'The Jack the Ripper Location Photographs : Dutfield's Yard and The Whitby Collection' for Amberley in 2009. He stands by his text but is dissatisfied with the printing of the images throughout.
