Jason Buckley got into filmmaking somewhat by accident. During the 2000 election cycle, he was working as a web producer for the Democratic National Committee. He watched the birth of the independent media movement during the World Trade Organization protests in Seattle. A few months later he saw it firsthand, when they tried to re-create the protests in Washington, DC for the World Bank meetings. Shortly thereafter, he bought a cheap digital camcorder and started documenting whatever he could and streaming it on the indymedia website. Jumping ahead two years, Jason had left the D.N.C. two weeks before the election - disgusted with the candidates and the lousy campaign they were running. He was working for a progressive nonprofit and playing bass in a band with Adam Kroloff. The post 9/11 atmosphere around DC, was getting scary in an Orwellian sort of way. Inspired by his recent career in national politics and the unusual political climate, and with a creative void due to the breakup of the band, Jason began writing the screenplay for Washington Interns Gone Bad (2003). It was produced that spring and completed after several months of editing. The movie was taken straight to the people - with screenings at several DC venues, it had a wildly popular release. Following the success of 'Interns', Jason and Anne, his fiancé (who also is a producer, hair/makeup/wardrobe person and unit director) packed up and moved to California. They got married and have an adorable daughter, named Stella Rose. Since the move, Jason has made a couple of comedy and documentary shorts and has crewed for several films of other producers. He currently posts his films and videos on a variety of websites and maintains a video blog.
