Mary Beth Sterling's path to Hollywood traveled through Chicago and took a few career detours before arriving at costume designer. Although she began sewing in junior high, Mary Beth decided to apply more scientific skills in college. But it was in business school where she got her first taste of the costume world as a staff member of the annual GSB Follies, designing and making costumes for about 2 dozen actors and dancers - including a leopard-print loincloth for her Statistics professor. Luckily, she had already taken his class. After earning a degree in fashion design from FIDM in L.A. in 2004, Mary Beth began designing for independent short and feature films, as well as taking a variety of positions in the costume departments of some better-known studio films. The most notable of these were on 'For Your Consideration' and 'No Country For Old Men'. In the fall of 2007, Mary Beth had the opportunity to return to Chicago to design the indie gangster feature, 'Chicago Overcoat', seen on Showtime, and on DVD. Mary Beth Sterling's educational background includes a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, an MBA from the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business, and an A.A. in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
