Ronnie Boykins Jr. was born into the world in 1975. His father Ronnie Boykins (black descent) was a famous Jazz bassist and is best known for his work with pianist/bandleader Sun Ra from 1958 until 1966, and occasionally thereafter. He died of a heart attack in 1980 leaving Ronnie Jr. to a arsenal of Jazz music and records that his mother (Danish descent) showed him over the years. As the years went on, he started listening to music and sounds all around the world. In 1990 he bought 2 turntables and started Djing at 14. The name "Real6" came about when he was in high school in 1991 and started writing Graffiti throughout New York City. 1992 he lost his mother to murder. With all that Has happened, he continued to move forward in life. Always having a love for both music and film, he wasted all his money on movies and music. That same year, Real6 and childhood friend Emare started to get together to do some music. Emare, being 4 years older, was rhyming A few years before Real6. Emare rapped to instrumentals while Real6 Djed. At this time Real6 started writing rhymes himself and focused and rapped about things that were going on in the world or things that had happened in his life. All living in the same complex in Hell's Kitchen, Emare, K-Man, Real6 & Tookie A.K.A. "Red" rhymed together. Over the years Real6 slowed down on the Graffiti and focused more on music. In 1995 not having enough money to buy equipment, they played the beats through a radio and recorded vocals into another portable radio. Also having a love for movies, he wrote short stories, filmed his own home videos and edited them on 2 VCRs. 3 years later, everyone split up for a few years and followed their own path. Over time, Drugs came into play and for 2 years he started going downhill. He overcame all the drugs and demons, battled homelessness and started focusing on life in 2001. Since then he has produced tracks for Cuban Link, Triple Seis, Kool Keith, Ced Gee and various other underground names and scored a few low-budget short films. While studying film since 2004, he and his friend Bal formed a company in 2005 called Underground Session, which is a hip hop battle DVD series. Aside from the music and film, Real6 is also a poet, film editor, writer and composer.
