Teunkie van der Sluijs predominantly works as a theater director in Great Britain and his native Netherlands, as well as in the United States. He has worked as resident director on the theater production 'ANNE,' a new adaptation of the diaries of Anne Frank at Theater Amsterdam, as staff director at the Royal National Theatre in London, and at the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond. As a freelance theater director, he has directed productions in the United Kingdom, the United States and the Netherlands. Van der Sluijs read Drama at the University of Amsterdam, at which time he sporadically worked as an actor. He continued his studies at London's drama school Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, where he studied theater directing. He combined his drama school studies with studying film at the London Film Academy. Van der Sluijs has directed theater productions at venues including the Barbican Theatre London, Battersea Arts Centre, Royal Theatre The Hague, Compagnietheater Amsterdam et.al. Productions include a stage adaptation of La Haine (1995), nominated for a Samuel Beckett Award, and contemporary British and Dutch playwrights.
