Alongside a career as a specialist and academic in public health, Ranjit is a writer for stage and film. His interest in writing began during his work in public health promotion and community development where he noted the growing use of drama and storytelling in engaging communities with health messages. He holds a PhD in Drama (Public Health) from the University of Manchester and his research examined the use and effectiveness of applied theatre when used to improve the public health and well being of prisoners. He was identified as one of the 100 Masters in the Black Country (UK), and gained Fellowship to the Royal Society of Arts, for his contribution to arts and health. He adopts a verbatim/documentary style to his writing and as such his work explores the lives and stories of marginalized and socially excluded individuals and groups to retell their stories.
