The term "renaissance" has followed Derrick Mayes since his early years at Notre Dame. Although he spent countless hours committing to his collegiate sport, he spent equal time in the books expanding the boundaries of his TV/Film major. By the time Derrick graduated, he left his mark as a Captain, 2-time MVP, and All-time Leading receiver in Notre Dame History. In 1996, Derrick was the 2nd draft pick by the Green Bay Packers. Mayes found instant success on the field winning Superbowl XXXI his rookie year! The self-empowering Mayes retired in 2001 after six years in the NFL. His off-field passions took over as he pursued Television/Film production. Mayes brokered his first movie deal in less than 8 short months. Planting himself further within the "industry", Mayes added a new title by Directing BET's original program, "The Ultimate Hustler" w/ Damon Dash. Since then, he has been blind-sided by a plethora of TV and movie scripts; two of which have been funded, optioned, and produced including "Pride", a Lions Gate film starring Terrance Howard, & Bernie Mac. Mayes' collegiate background landed him recent success by creating & Producing the original program, "Irish Weekly" which is in its 3rd year of national syndication. It's true this Renaissance man has several opportunities at his fingertips, but as Mayes sees it, "There are more opportunities in this world than there are people to seize them!"
