Carmen Corral is a first-generation, Mexican-American, comedy writer from Chicago, the daughter of a welder/Norteño musician and a cleaning lady/poet. She recently finished her 2nd season as writer's assistant on the ABC comedy, Home Economics. Carmen studied acting at the UCLA School of Film, Theater and Television on a full scholarship. After graduating, she worked as a professional actress where she saw first hand the dire need for stories written by Latinas. She transitioned to writing and created and directed, BFFs, a YA comedy web series about 20-something Latina besties. The series streamed on Univision's Youtube channel, Flama, and has garnered over a million views. In, 2018, Carmen wrote Our Lady of the Nerds, a coming-of-age comedy inspired by her nerdy teen years (she's still a nerd). It was optioned by AGC Studios with showrunner, Peter Murrieta (Wizards of Waverly Place) attached. Carmen was a 2020 NHMC Writing Fellow where she completed her comedic, middle-school series, Crushing It! And in 2022, Carmen was a comedy finalist for a second time for the Disney General Entertainment Content Writing Program and a finalist for Tanya Saracho's Ojalá Ignition Lab. Fun fact, Carmen is also a trained dancer and choreographer- a little less nerdy, but yes, still a nerd.
