Politcally active since childhood, Kristin Halvorsen has been a member of Sosialistisk Ungdom ("Socialist youth") and later Sosialistisk Venstreparti ("Socialist left party"). From 1989 to 2005 she was a member of the Norwegian parliament for SV. From the election of October 2005 she is the minister of finance of the center-left coalition government.
