"It's wonderful that there are more women directing, but sensitivity has no gender. My film is not for women, it's for people". Spanish filmmaker and screenwriter, although she has a degree in Hispanic Philology, she began her path in cinema in 2002 when she participated in a three-month course taught by director Bigas Luna, and in 2006 she graduated in Cinematography Direction at the Madrid Film School. From that moment on, she began to divide her career between her film work as a screenwriter and her work as a teacher of screenwriting and photography. It was not until 2013 that her professional career took a turn when she was one of the 16 filmmakers selected worldwide by the Hungarian director, Béla Tarr, to participate in his educational project 'Film.factory'. Since then, she has dedicated herself to making numerous short films that have won awards at international festivals worldwide such as Noah (2015), The Night of All Things (2017), Zimsko Sunce and Horta, and 2019's Agenda 1958. With her first two feature films, Palomero managed to captivate critics and audiences: first with Las niñas en 2020, in which she explores the relationships of adolescent friendship between girls as a director. This project won her three Goya awards for Best New Director, Best Film, and Best Original Screenplay. Second La Maternal, premiered at the San Sebastian International Film Festival 2022 and was nominated for several international awards. She was recognized for her method of directing actresses, choosing from casting interpreters with little or no acting experience to maintain their freshness and naturalness in front of the camera.
