Eicca Toppinen (born 1975) is a Finnish composer, cellist and producer. He studied classical cello at Sibelius-Academy in Helsinki, Finland. He is most known for his revolutionary cello-metal band APOCALYPTICA which he formed 1993. Apocalyptica has released 9 studio albums which have sold over 6 million copies and been touring over 50 countries with almost 2000 shows. Eicca scored movies "Black Ice" (2007) by Petri Kotwica (Making Movies) for which he won Jussi-award for the best score and "Aquarela" (2019) by Victor Kossakovsky (Sony Pictures Classic) which gave him nominations at Critic's Choice Documentary Awards (Best Score) and Cinema Eye Honors (Outstanding Achievement in Original Score). Many of his songs have reached top positions on single-, radio- and album charts around the world and ending on movie soundtracks like "Bad Boys" (2003), "Vidocq" (2001), "Addiction" (2004), game "Death Stranding" (Hideo Kojima 2020) and tv-series like "Dollhouse" (2010) and "Smallville" (2009). He has collaborated as song writer with Max Martin, Guy Sighsworth, Diane Warren, Martin Hansen etc... and done arrangements for artists like Metallica, Rammstein, Slipknot, Three Days Grace and many more. His other composing works include f.ex. music for theatre (Finnish National Theatre 2000), opera "Indigo" for Finnish National Opera (2016 together with Perttu Kivilaakso) and 2012 he composed and produced "Wagner Reloaded" dance/stage-performance by Gregor Seyffert for Apocalyptica, MDR symphony orchestra and choir (c.Kristjan Järvi) and 120 dancers (in Leipzig Arena). His music has been used in countless documentaries, dance- and theater productions and commercials around the world.
