Carlos Lechuga, born in Havana 1983, is a Cuban film director, writer, producer, and author. His formation as a Director starts at the Cuban University of Arts and continues his studies at San Antonio de Los Baños International School of Cinema and Television (EICTV) to specialize in script writing. He has worked as advisor, script doctor and second unit director side by side with directors like Humberto Solás, Juan Carlos Tabío, Juan Carlos Cremata, Iciar Bollain and Ernesto Daranas. He has written several screenplays for films such as "El Eden Perdido" (The Lost Eden), "Club Habana" and "Penunbras" (Shadows). He has been awarded with relevant writing distinctions like the Julio Alejandro Award, Havana Film Festival Unpublished Screenplay Award and the Screenplay Award at Gibara Film Festival. As a writer - director he has made short films such as "Los Bañistas" (The swimmers), which won the Best Short Film Award at Havana Film Festival, as well as a Silver Hugo at Chicago International Film Festival. His first feature "Melaza" (Molasses), whose international premiere was at Rotterdam Film Festival, was awarded with the Best Latin-American Film at Malaga Film Festival and with the Newcomer of the Year in 2013, which is the main award of Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival, among many other prizes. "Santa y Andrés" (Santa & Andres), his second film as writer - director had its world premiere at Toronto Film Festival and its European premiere was at San Sebastián Film Festival. Along its festival career the film has participated in more than 70 international competitions and has been rewarded with several awards like the Best Iberian-American Film at Guadalajara International Film Festival in 2017. To the date the film has never been shown in Cuba due to censorship. In 2019 he collaborated with renowned Cuban artist Marco Castillo to direct the Art Film "Generación" (Generation) a stunning visual piece that has traveled to galleries and cultural centers around the world, including the Havana Art Biennial 2019 and ARCOmadrid 2020 - International Contemporary Art Fair. He is co-founder with Claudia Calviño of the Independent Production Company "Cachita Films".
