Apollo Carvalho (born May 27,1969) is a brazilian musician and composer. He is classically trained, having started piano lessons at the age of 6. Early in his career, he was known as a keyboard player for Marcelo D2. Since the late nineties he has worked primarily as an ads soundtrack composer, but also has done music for cinema and produced a good number of albums. From 1998 to 2003 he produced Recife's Singer and percussionist Otto's first three albums. His early hit "Bob",featuring Bebel Gilberto, launched both hers and Otto's international careers . In 2006 he started A9 Audio, which now is one Brazil's leading companies in music and sound design for ads. He also scored "Drained" by Heitor Dhalia. Having worked with filmmakers such as Walter Salles and Fernando Meirelles, as well as many leading brazilian artists, Apollo brought a strong nonconformist approach to all his productions, including well over a thousand adds (and counting) for clients such as Nike, Budweiser, General Motors, and Coca Cola. Apollo's musical collaborations with foreign visiting artists are very common, such as recording, mixing or composing with Tv On The Radio, Soulwax, Garland Jeffreys, Modeselektor, Alice Cooper, Santigold,DJ Hell,The Pharcyde, and many others... Brazilians Seu Jorge, Nação Zumbi, Marcelo D2 and Tropkillaz are often in the studio. In 2012 he produced Reza, Rita Lee's (Os Mutantes) last album, that brought back her experimental side. A9 Audio is the only music production house in Brazil with a full fledged 5.1 studio comprising of a 72 input Neve mixing board and Westlake monitoring. The same setup as Lucas Films, Abbey Road and Westlake studios. The sheer quality of A9's production standards surely helped the company becoming one of the most prized companies in it's field. All this bring together a daring company, that is at home fusing brazilian Candomblé roots with modular synths and orchestral music, be it for records, films or ads, with top creative and technical quality. In 2021 Apollo composed the soundtrack for the Disney Series Insania (Gustavo Bonafé) and the feature The Cage (João Wainer), both due to be released soon.
