Terry grew up in the bucolic, small-college town of River Falls, Wisconsin and graduated from UW-LaCrosse in 1981 with a degree in Parks and Recreation Administration. He spent several years sailing tall ships as a deck officer and it was there, on the high seas, that Terry developed his love of writing. In 1979, Terry was one of 44 Americans selected for Operation Drake, a British/American international youth service expedition. Terry's sense for adventure continued when he returned to Papua New Guinea in 1983 to lead an international team in the construction and sailing of a 43' traditional outrigger canoe. For his leadership and service, he was selected as the first American to receive the British Scientific Exploration Society's "Bish Medal" for exploration and cultural preservation. Terry was invited to London for recognition from Prince Charles and an appearance on British television. After marriage in 1987, Terry turned his passions to screenwriting and film production. He studied with nationally recognized screenwriting teachers: Academy Award nominee Janet Roach, Robert McKee, Dr. Linda Seger, and Michael Hauge. His script, "Kate Loves Spiffy," was a semifinalist in the Academy Awards Foundation Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting. In 2000, Terry joined the staff at UNC-Wilmington as a Lecturer and Internship Director in the Film Studies Department, teaching courses in screenwriting and film production. He continues to write, produce and direct under his A Bunch Of Us Productions banner.
