Pittsburgh's The Skyliners were renowned for their smooth harmonies, especially on their signature song, 1959's "Since I Don't Have You", on the independent Calico label. The group consisted of lead Jimmy Beaumont and Wally Lester, Jack Taylor, Joe Verscharen and Janet Vogel (it was somewhat unusual at the time for a vocal group to have a female member). Although "Since I Don't Have You" was their first and biggest hit, they had several top-ten hits over the years, including "Pennies from Heaven", "It Happened Today" and "This I Swear". The original group broke up in 1963, but in 1974 they reformed (without Taylor) and cut another record. The Skyliners still perform at concerts and oldies shows, with original lead Jimmy Beaumont and a new lineup. Two of its original members have died, Janet Vogel in 1980 and Joe Verscharen in 2007.
