Biography

He is an outstanding film director with a degree in Hispanic Philology and Comparative Literature from the University of Barcelona. He made his international debut with Honor de Cavalleria at Cannes 2006, considered one of the best films of the year by Cahiers du Cinéma. In 2009, he presented El cant dels ocells, which won awards at several festivals. In 2013, Història de la meva mort won the Golden Leopard at Locarno and was highlighted by The New Yorker. In 2016, The Death of Louis XIV received the Jean Vigo Award and seven Gaudí Award nominations. In 2019, Liberté won the Special Jury Prize at Cannes. In 2022, Pacifiction premiered at Cannes, where it competed for the Palme d'Or, was named Best Film of the Year by Cahiers du Cinéma, won the Louis Delluc Prize, and received nine César Award nominations. His influences can be traced back to filmmakers such as J.A. Bayona, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Hong Sang-soo, Pedro Costa, and Cristi Puiu.
