With a career spanning over 2 decades, and a clientele which includes such icons and iconic brands as Celine Dion, Samuel L. Jackson, Pharrell Williams, Michelle Rodriquez, the late Aaliyah, Bobby Brown, Adidas, Google, Amazon, and McDonald's, Derek Lee has become the go-to wardrobe stylist for those craving a unique and edgy approach to fashion. Born and raised in New York City's East Village, Derek's education in fashion started earlier than most. Mentored by his mother, Ionia Dunn-Lee Cisse who was Fashion Editor for Essence Magazine for 25 years, Derek was traveling the world on shoots most of his life. His exposure to style and fashion inspired him to attend New York's Fashion Institute of Technology to earn a degree in menswear design. In 1996 he decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a wardrobe styling career. As soon as he landed, Derek was received with open arms by music artists and entertainers. His unique approach to individual style with or without name brand labels made him a favorite among cutting edge artists such as Macy Gray, The Pussycat Dolls, Missy Elliot, Usher, Lil Kim and more. In 1997 Derek met the late R&B singer, Aaliyah and worked exclusively as her wardrobe stylist throughout her short music and film career. He's appeared on VH-1, MTV, E! and prime time network television giving his expert opinion on fashion. Three films Derek worked on as the key costume designer went on to win acclaim. "Shelter" won 10 film festival awards and "Vicious Circle" won Best Picture at the New York International Latino Film Festival as well as the Orlando Hispanic Film Festival Audience Award. Derek Lee continues to style some of today's top celebrities for music, film, television, commercials and more. His refreshing approach to fashion makes Derek Lee one of the most sought-after wardrobe stylists in his industry.
