Jessica Erwin grew up in South Africa, where she began her acting career at age 4, when she booked her first T.V. commercial. An excruciatingly shy child, she found expression through dance, and at age 8 was cast as Dorothy in a dance production of The Wizard of Oz. With this, she fell in love with the stage and performed in many more ballet, contemporary and tap shows throughout her childhood and teenage years. While studying Shakespeare at The University of Cape Town, she rekindled her relationship with the screen, and was cast in several European T.V. commercials. After completing her arts degree, she chose to give her love of performing arts flight, and moved to Los Angeles. Here, she won a scholarship to study at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. Having had two years of training and acting in independent film and theatre productions in Los Angeles, she moved to Vancouver, Canada. In Vancouver, she landed roles in T.V. shows such as Smallville, Supernatural and The L Word. Her hiatus from acting was interrupted by an invitation to work on a short film in South Africa, which she then co-wrote and starred in. The short, The First Week, won seven awards at the Cape Town 48 Hour Film Festival, including Best Film, and she was nominated for the Best Actress award. The First Week was screened at The Filmapalooza Festival in Seattle, where it won another award and was selected to screen at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. Jessica now lives in Vancouver, Canada.
