Born to a famous Telugu film character artiste, Thammareddy Chalapathi Rao who has acted in more than a 1200 films across 48years, Ravi had a normal childhood and went to the best schools in Chennai. After graduation, he went to Pune to complete his Masters in Business Administration from the prestigious Symbiosis Instute of Business Management. He subsequently worked as an apprentice to noted Advertisment and Film-maker Rajiv Menon for a year before moving to the United States. He enrolled at the Film and Television Workshops in Rockport, Maine but quit shortly because he found the curriculum too rudimentary. He later attended the Sony Institute in San Jose, California for a course in digital online editing. After a stint at the now defunct India Broadcasting Network in New York and TV Asia, initially as a cameraman and editor and later as program producer and director he returned to India. He directed a number of commercials for a Chennai based film production company, Autumncart, before starting his production house Flying Frogs in the year 1999 and has produced and directed numerous commercials and films since then.
