Shane studied 16 mm filmmaking in Vancouver, Canada, making short films as writer, director and producer. Her experimental graduation film was featured on Rogers Cable in BC, Canada. She also directed two short studio dramas for Rogers Cable and stage plays by Canadian, British and Irish playwrights. Later moving to New York, she wrote and produced two award-winning short films, the Russian comedy, Last Minute Doubts (1998), set in Moscow and an experimental poetic drama, The Garden (2000), both of which played to acclaim at US film festivals. After collaborating with other directors on short films she returned to writing and directing with her script for the short film, The Ice Cream Van (2012).
