Susie Lampert grew up in Pomona, New York in a big family with five siblings. Susie loved music and playing piano from an early age. At age fifteen Lampert made her first live venture with a jazz band. She subsequently became a member of the punk group Ruby and the Rednecks, which was the house band for New York City's Playhouse of the Ridiculous. Moreover, Susie also wrote music and played keyboards for a number of Off-Off Broadway plays and has performed on stage at the popular Big Apple punk clubs Max's Kansas City and CBGB's with such notable punk music icons as Iggy Pop and The New York Dolls. In addition, Lampert has performed in other bands in diverse music genres that include bluegrass, country, and rock. In the early 80s Susie discovered Milton Nascimento and Brazilian music; she learned Portuguese and frequently traveled to Brazil to buy records and get acquainted with the culture. During this period she worked part time as a registered nurse while still pursuing her music career. Lampert met acclaimed children's music singer/songwriter Laurie Berkner when they were both working at New York's Rockafeller University (Lampert was a research nurse and Laurie was a preschool music teacher). Susie and Berkner joined the all-female cover group Lois Lane. Lampert eventually became the keyboardist for the hugely successful and popular children's music group the Laurie Berkner Band and remains a member of said group to this very day.
