Rockin Dopsie Jr.

Zydeco musician Rockin Dopsie was born Alton Rubin on Feb. 10, 1932, in Carencro, LA. He began playing zydeco in the 1950s in clubs in rural Louisiana. He started to become nationally known in the 1960s, released a couple of albums and did extensive touring in the US and Europe for more than a decade. He started his own band, Rockin' Dopsie and the Twisters, and it became one of top zydeco bands in the world. His last album, "Louisiana Music", was released in 1991 and earned a Grammy nomination. He died in Opalausas, LA, in 1993.
