April Maiya grew up Los Angeles, California where she started work as a Music Supervisor for Reginald Hudlin and Paramount Pictures. She made her directorial debut in the independent documentary Chronicles of Junior M.A.F.I.A. (2004) featuring rappers: The Notorious B.I.G, Junior M.A.F.I.A. She produced and directed Life After Death: The Movie (2007) featuring actor Jamie Hector as the narrator. In 2008 she began work for Black Entertainment Television (BET) as a Producer and directed music group Wu Tang Clan's documentary, Rise Of A Fallen Soldier. She is married to music executive Damion 'D-Roc" Butler.
