Julian Curtis is a 2008 NIDA acting graduate. In 2017, he won a Matilda Award for 'True West' at Brisbane Powerhouse. He has appeared on stage for Queensland Theatre Company, LaBoite Theatre Company, Sydney Theatre Company, Riverside Theatres, Metro Arts, Shake + Stir, Siren Theatre Company, Darlinghurst Theatre Company, Queensland Arts Council and Pinchgut Opera. In 2016 University of Queensland funded him to write his first play which has attracted further funding through Playwriting Australia. He won the Marten Bequest Scholarship for Acting in 2011 that took him to the United States where he appeared in dramatic roles including the film 'Captured', telemovie 'Twister Warning', 'The Duelist' for Jim Henson Studio and a lead role in 'The Middle' opposite some of the biggest names in music. A finalist at Just for Laughs Montreal 2013 for his self-written web series propelled Julian into more comedic roles including the lead of Bryan Singer's 'Spooked', 'The Britishes' opposite Peter Seafinowicz and TV pilot 'Roxy & the Rabies Babies' for Chuck Lorre at Warner Bros. Other television credits include 'Dance Academy', 'East West 101', 'Legend of the Seeker', 'Adam Ruins Everything' and 'Acting Out' for MTV. He has appeared in a number of film shorts funded through Screen Australia including 'Power the Kid' which he wrote. Highlights include the Sydney Film Festival selection 'Dance Me to the End' and 'Neon King' which took top awards at the Byron Bay Film Festival in 2016. Last month, he wrapped principal photography as the title role in the film 'Poster Boy'.
