Jesús Armesto (Écija, 1978), filmmaker, scriptwriter, editor and photographer based in Barcelona. He holds a degree in Film Directing and Screenwriting (CECC, 2005) and Audiovisual Creation Technician (Seville, 2002). In 2005, he received the Promotion Award from the Centre d'estudis cinematogràfics de Catalunya. He has written, directed and photographed 4 feature-length documentaries with which he has participated in international film festivals such as: Seville European Film Festival (2), Edinburgh Ibero-American Documentary Film Festival, Nantes Spanish Film Festival, Toulouse Cinespaña Film Festival, Napoli Rights Human FF, L'Alternative Barcelona FF , Euro-Arabian FF, Ibn Arabi FF, Fronteiras FF, MUSOC .... In his films he has addressed themes such as memory, history and collective identities in our globalised society, as well as portraits and reflections on migration. He has worked with personalities and artists such as Judge Bartasar Garzón, Enrique Morente, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, Boaventura de Sousa, Helena Maleno, Blanca Garcés, Javier Ruibal, Bichara Khader, Antonio Manuel, and Isabelle Serro. He has taught at the University of Barcelona (2007, 2008 and 2009) and at EADA Business School teaching "leadership through the image", and has given numerous lectures and classes on film language, literary adaptation to film, and 20th century culture, at centres such as the University of Seville, University of Granada, Alliance of Civilizations Alliance for Peace, Immigration Forum, ...among others. He is a founding partner of the production company Almutafilm Cinema Studios, currently based in London, with which he has made, produced and edited more than 30 promotional spots for organisations such as the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, the Andalusian Regional Government, and the City Council of Barcelona, among others. On a social level, in 2017 he was president of the NGO Espacios Berakah, an association for the reception and accompaniment of migrants based in Seville. His documentary film "Las llaves de la memoria" has been included as pedagogical material in formal education in France for young people aged 15 and 16, between 2020 and 2025, and has been included in two doctoral theses (universities of Seville and Manchester) and recurrently used as a pedagogical complement in universities in the USA (Stanford), Colombia, Argentina, Portugal and Spain.
