Harry Bardwell

HARRY BARDWELL Profile Harry Bardwell has an extensive track record in Australian and international film and television, mainly in the areas of documentary, and factual programs, as well as financing projects across a wide range of genres including documentary, kids drama and animation, TV drama series and low budget movies. After initial film training in his home state of Western Australia, Harry moved to South Australia in 1979 where he established his reputation as a documentary maker with numerous productions including the acclaimed independent documentary Backs to the Blast which broke the Maralinga nuclear test story to the world. In 1983 Harry joined the Australian Broadcasting Corporations's newly established Television Science Unit. He was part of the team that created the long running Quantum science series (now re-badged as Catalyst). In 1986 Harry was appointed the inaugural ABC commissioning editor and executive producer for independent documentaries. In addition to pioneering independent commissioning processes in Australia he created ABC's True Stories and Big Picture documentary strands, as well as co producing a range of international series including the multi award winning Power In The Pacific and Sylvania Waters. He is credited on over 200 Australian and international productions. In 1994 Harry joined ABC News and Current Affairs executive producing ABC's Four Corners in1995 and then for six years was Head of International Production and Business with them. Harry left the ABC as General Manager, Media Business in 2001 to establish Bardwell Media, specializing in production and network funding and strategic development. In 2005 he joined ScreenWest in Western Australia as Director of Production and Development. In this role he helped shape and implement funding programs for the local independent film television and digital production industry, including funding over 100 Western Australian productions. Since 2011 Harry has managed his own consulting and executive production business Bardwell Partners, with Christine Pip.
