Irfaan Fredericks

Irfaan Fredericks is one of the most sought-after film and television producers in South Africa. He started his career as a cable basher in 2003 and worked his way up to produce and facilitate local and international productions as well as independent films with A list talent. Kalahari Film and Media, an internationally recognised production company, was co-owned and operated by Michael S. Murphey and Irfaan from 2014-2021. Through their combined experience and talent they grew Kalahari Film & Media into a premier South African based production company that facilitated studio and independent films. In order to focus on his career and fulfill his dream of becoming an independent producer, he left Kalahari Film and Media to create a new venture, Wallflower Productions with a core focus of developing original content from Africa for a global audience. Years of experience have taught him that creating the on-set tone from day one is vital. When the cast and crew feel the environment is emotionally safe and secure it makes for a smoother and much more productive team. To do this he deals with any potential problems in advance by making sure everything is organised and the crew and talent know what is expected of them. When problems do arise, as they always do, I deal with them swiftly and in an unobtrusive manner. Irfaan is one of the few South African producers who can merge the skill set learned from facilitating international productions and applying that same level of expertise to local original African productions. He is also adept at leveraging the international relationships built during his years in the film industry by applying them to any business venture that he undertakes. His journey, from cable basher to producer and company owner, motivated him to co-found The YFP (Young Filmmakers Programme). The YFP is a non-profit company with the mandate to educate South African youth at school level about the viability of employment within the Film and Entertainment industry and to mentor young entrants into the film industry. Diversity and transformation is a passion of his and a key ethos to any project that he undertakes.
