Born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia producer, director, actor and singer both on screen and on stage Torrey Russell has served as Director on national touring productions of Jesus Christ Superstar with Ted Neeley, Five Guys Named Moe, and regional productions of The Color Purple, Dreamgirls, Once On This Island and The Wiz just to name a few. Torrey has worked behind the scenes on numerous TV sitcoms and award shows. He has worked with and directed the likes of Bill Cosby, Tyler Perry, Cicely Tyson, Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight and Oprah Winfrey just to name a few. For 8 years Torrey was blessed to tour the country as the Tour Manager for world renowned Author, Poet, & Civil Rights Leader Dr. Maya Angelou. In 2009 Torrey founded A Source Of Joy Theatricals/ Broadway In The Hood a 501c3 Non-Profit that is dedicated to "Helping Others Open Doors" and to changing lives through the arts in under served communities. In 2018 Torrey Russell was honored to be nominated as and was a finalist for the 2018 Tony Award for Excellence in Theatre Education Award!
