Born in Northampton General Hospital, he lived in the small village of Draughton until the age of 5. His family then moved in to the 'Southend Hotel' Public House in Bedford, where they lived until 1984. They then moved again to another Public House, the 'Prince Albert' in Milton Keynes. Matt then worked in a meat packing factory at the age of 16. He worked in various jobs over the next year including- window fitter, hod carrier, labourer, removal man and furniture delivery. Matt started amateur boxing at the age of 18, winning 13 out of 15 bouts. He turned professional in 2001, winning 7 out of 10 fights as a professional Heavyweight. He fought World Champions James Toney and Anthony Joshua. Matt has two Brothers- Stuart and Andrew. He has three sons - Matthew Jr, Max and Mason.
