Özcan Alper is a Turkish film director and screenwriter of Hemshin descent, best known for Autumn (2008) and Future Lasts Forever (2011). After studying at Trabzon Lisesi, he moved in 1992 to Istanbul to study Engineering at Istanbul University, followed by a study in the History of Sciences at the same university, from which he graduated in 2003. Having been interested in films since his early twenties, he started assisting in films under the supervision of film director Yesim Ustaoglu in 2000. After being assistant director in the short Toprak, he filmed Momi (2001) as his first short film as main director. In 2008, Alper released his first long feature Autumn (2008), which explores the Turkish political climate in the '90s, earning him multiple awards as a newcomer. This success was followed by another critically acclaimed film, Future Lasts Forever (2011).
