Dee Smith was born and raised in Compton CA. She began her stage career in the early 1990s, performing improv in Los Angeles and Orange County; ultimately becoming a member of the "Orange County Crazies Comedy Troop" founded by Cherie Kerr, one of the original Groundlings. As her passion for acting grew, Dee decided to move to Sherman Oaks in order to be closer to the industry. She studied with some of the industry's best acting coaches in Los Angeles, including Margie Hager and Ivana Chubbuck. Dee went on to perform in various stage productions including Zombie Joe's Underground and many others throughout the Los Angeles area. She was cast in several indie films and earned a best actress nomination for her lead role in the Indie film "All Out" which premiered at the Dallas Black Film Festival. Dee went on to produce her first film project, a short documentary on women's rights entitled "Primal Cries" to bring more awareness to the practice of (Female Genital Mutilation) This experience led her on the path to producing and actively creating her own opportunities in acting and producing. Dee then decided to produce her first stage play "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot" which earned her 5 LA WEEKLY Nominations in which she won the top two producing awards - "Best Ensemble Production of the year" and "Best Revival Production of the year. Dee also earned a nomination with the NAACP Theatre Awards for the same production. Dee continues to hone her craft in acting, writing and producing.
