Riayn Spaero is a writer, performing artist, and filmmaker who is currently directing and producing Bridget, Juana, Shannon..., a documentary that profiles survivors of the missing and murdered Indigenous women crisis and the activists and leaders fighting to stop it. In 2011, her first short film Filter, a narrative exploration of body dysmorphic disorder, received an honorable mention from the Columbus International Film + Video Festival. Her writing has appeared in The Believer, Longreads.com, The Bushwick Daily, and the A Room of Her Own: Gift of Freedom compilation distributed at AWP Boston 2013. Her other work includes launching and running a small circulation literary and arts magazine (BSRM) in Boston- - from 2006 to 2008, performing on major public stages, and winning and or placing in multiple Washington, DC-based playwriting competitions. Spaero graduated from Emerson College, attended Duke Ellington High School of the Performing Arts, and was raised in Bethesda, Maryland.
