Kennie Bass began working as a broadcaster in his home state of West Virginia in 1978. He started doing football halftime and end-of-game reports for WKAZ-AM, and eventually moved into the host role on a weekly public affairs program "Wildcat Corner." After taking DJ gigs at Charleston stations WXIT-AM and WJYP-FM, he entered college at West Virginia University in the fall of 1981. Following a semester in Morgantown, Bass transferred to Marshall University. He is a 1985 Marshall University graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism. During his studies in Huntington, he worked as a news anchor/reporter for WGNT-AM and WAMX-FM, and as a news/sports personality on the Marshall student station, WMUL-FM. His television career began in 1984 on public television as a news anchor/reporter for the student-produced "MU Report." In September 1985 he was hired as an intern at the Huntington NBC affiliate, which turned into a full-time job in July 1986. Following a two-year stint as a news reporter and occasional anchor, he was given the job of sports anchor/reporter. In 1990 Bass was promoted to Sports Director. He moved here to WCHS-TV/WVAH-TV in July 1997 as a news anchor/reporter. His duties also include sports and entertainment reporting. He is a native of the Kanawha Valley. In addition to television, over the past several years he has done news and sports for West Virginia radio stations in Charleston, Huntington, St. Albans, Williamson, Matewan and Oak Hill. Hobbies include golf, movies, reading and acting. He is active in community theater, having worked with groups in Charleston and Huntington. Some of his notable roles include Oscar Madison in "The Odd Couple", Bill Sikes in "Oliver!", John Utterson in "Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical", Sammy in "The Wedding Singer", Lt. Sam Weinberg in "A Few Good Men", Franklin Hart, Jr. in "9 To 5: The Musical" and The Innkeeper in "Les Miserables". He has been doing movie reviews since 2000 for WVAH-TV.
