Mathew (Mat) Charles is an award-winning documentary maker and journalist. He passionately believes in the power of good film and journalism to bring about positive social change. His work focuses on people and communities who are struggling to have their voices heard. In 2012, Mat went undercover in Belarus to investigate the human rights abuses of President and dictator, Aleksandr Lukashenko. As a result, he was arrested and detained by the KGB. Upon his release, his findings were presented to a special hearing of the British Parliament. As a former correspondent for the BBC and CNN, Mathew has traveled extensively as a reporter. But after more than 10 years working in news, he broke away from the formulaic methods of storytelling and skewed agendas to pursue documentary. Mathew is co-founder of Guerrilla Pictures, a production company dedicated to creating real social impact through film. They believe documentary does not end with a simple screening or broadcast. This is just the beginning.
