The work of HWIII comes in many forms. It covers a wide span of locations, subjects, and genres. Each piece is shot through various lenses, but with one single vision: to uncover the balance of dark and the light of the world around him. At the heart of HWIII's work is his documentary-format films, including three PBS-produced pieces that explore current issues plaguing the Middle America he grew up and resides in: the increase of opioid use (Down on the Pharm: A Heroin Epidemic); sex trafficking in rural counties (Human Trafficking in the Heartland); and the Emmy-nominated exploration of the alarming rates of midwest teen suicide in If You Only Knew: The Journey Through Depression and Suicide. His documentary still photos of children caught in the middle of gang-riddled Peru were recently showcased in an exhibit at the Des Moines Art Center, alongside other noted street photographers including Vivian Maier. HWIII's work as a filmmaker extends to creative projects as well. As a partner at independent film house En Media Res Films & Videos, he has engaged in both production and post-production on two films slated for release in Fall of 2017. Shot on Super 16mm Kodak Film Stock, noir-revenge thriller Night of the Babysitter (starring Bill Oberst Jr. and Dora Madson) and Tennesee Gothic (based on renowned horror-scribe Ray Russell's dark-toned debaucherous short story), showcase HWIII's work. The production even garnered attention from Kodak Vice President Michael Brown, who donated several rolls of film to the project. HWIII's creative work has also been featured in American Grown, Michelle Obama's book,Colossus of Destiny - A Melvins Tale Documentary; Aseethe's Music Video & Kalispell). He is a regular contributor to Paste Magazine/Daytrotter music video productions and community magazine Family Focus.
