Corine de Ruiter studied psychology at the University of Utrecht and the University of Oregon (Eugene, Oregon, USA). In 1986 she obtained her Ph.D. degree (cum laude) at Utrecht University. In subsequent years they were proficient as behavioral and clinical psychologist. In 1989 she obtained her PhD at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) on a dissertation titled Psychological Investigation into Panic and Agoraphobia. From 1992 to 1995 she was a student of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences (KNAW) joined the Department of Clinical Psychology at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). From 1997 to 2002 she was head of the Research, Education, Legal and Policy Affairs Dr. Henri van der Hoeven Clinic in Utrecht. From 1999 to 2004 she was a professor of Forensic Psychology at the UvA. Corine de Ruiter is also a co-founder and secretary of the Dutch Foundation Rorschach. It also acts regularly as an expert witness in criminal cases. She gives frequent lectures about her research and her work as an expert witness.
