Texas-born tenor Jay Hunter Morris rose from relative obscurity to international fame in October 2011, when both the scheduled headlining tenor, and then also his replacement, dropped out of the Metropolitan Opera's scheduled production of Wagner's opera 'Siegfried' with little more than a week's notice. Morris, who had been understudying the part faithfully for more than two years, and who had sung it in San Francisco, was pulled into the breach. His triumphant singing of Siegfried in both the Met's 'Siegfried' and then also 'Gotterdammerung', were transmitted live around the world via the Met Live in HD cinecasts and radio broadcasts.
