Richard Turley is a film and television director living in London, UK. With almost two decades of experience in broadcasting, his films to date have largely been factual or drama-documentary pieces though these have been complemented by his award winning narrative short films. For Richard story is key, and he has a passion for bringing great tales to screen whether through real life testimony or dramatic interpretation. His greatest strength has been described as "...his imagination which, when coupled with his innate ability for storytelling produces a natural and talented film maker." With more than 20 hours of drama documentaries for US broadcasters under his belt - predominantly in the true crime arena - he's used to telling complex stories in an engaging thought provoking and intelligent way; both single and multi-episode films. His debut independent short film "Darklight" with backing from Film London. Directed and co-written by Richard, "Darklight" features Tilly Vosburgh (Atonement, Vera Drake, EastEnders) and Alicia Ambrose-Bayly, and the resulting 25-minute film shines with imagination and charm that have become his hallmark as a director. It received its world premiere at the London Film Festival and was described by a Film London jury as "an engrossing piece of film-making, highly atmospheric..." and by BAFTA winning Producer Stephen Woolley (The Crying Game, Made in Dagenham) as "A constantly surprising tale... that leads you eager for a sequel". It went on to be long-listed for a BAFTA. With experience as a producer and show runner, Richard has an intrinsic understanding of film making and bringing projects to fruition.
