Political journalist Adam Nagourney was born on October 10, 1954 in New York City. Nagourney graduated from the State University of New York at Purchase with a B.A. in economics in 1977. From 1977 to 1983 Adam worked for the Gannett Westchester Newspaper, where he served as a reporter in the Putnam County, White Plains, and Northern Westchester editions of the White Plains "Reporter Dispatch." Nagourney went on to work for The New York Daily News from 1983 to 1990 and USA Today from 1990 to 1993. Adam joined the staff of The New York Times in 1996 and was appointed the chief national political correspondent for The New York Times in 2002. In 2010 Nagourney became the Los Angeles bureau chief for The New York Times. Moreover, Adam has also written for The New York Times Magazine as well as the blog The Caucus. In addition, the openly gay Nagourney is the co-author of the book Out for Good: The Struggle to Build a Gay Rights Movement in America, which was published in 1999. His brother Eric Nagourney is a copy editor and writer for The New York Times who specializes in health-related issues.
