J.R. Reher attended the University of Minnesota before moving to Los Angeles to attend the AFI Conservatory for an MFA in Screenwriting. He wrote Sony's film Into the Grizzly Maze (aka Red Machine) starring Billy Bob Thornton and James Marsden. Roadside Attractions released his new film he co-wrote entitled The Ride starring Ludacris in 2020. Next up is The Drive-Thru Crematorium which he adapted from Jon Bassoff's novel. Mukunda Michael Dewil is directing.
