Garrett Mercer was born in Arlington, Virginia to parents Lee and Deborah Mercer. During his early years, Mercer was very interested in sports and competitively swam, played basketball, tennis, and lacrosse. He matriculated at Emerson College and graduated with a B.A. in Film Production, though his senior thesis project was directing a theatrical production of Jean Paul Sartre's "No Exit". Now living in Los Angeles, Mercer is a co-founder of Ammunition Theatre Company with members Malcolm Barrett, Tina Huang, Arjun Gupta, and Brandon Scott.
