Shalane grew up on a parrot farm in Ramornie NSW. Born to farmers Neville and Noddy Connors, she was raised alongside hundreds of birds, horses, donkeys, rottweilers, snakes, and siblings. She spent most of her childhood horse-riding, dancing and studying music, and didn't discover acting until the age of 17. She then went on to study acting at the University of Wollongong, graduating with a bachelor of Performing Arts. After graduating she fell somewhat accidentally into music after winning a songwriting comp at Tamworth Country Music Festival with her sister. They formed a touring folk duo called 'Siskin River' for which she wrote and performed original music for five years, as a singer and guitarist. The band released two EP's and an Album, and played at major Australian music festivals including Falls Fest, Woodford, Queenscliff, Fairbridge, Festival of The Sun, and Bluesfest, to name a few. After the death of their father, and the growing struggles of self-managing a full-time touring act, 'Siskin River' disbanded and Shalane returned to Sydney in 2016 to continue her acting journey. She has since been working in film, TV, commercials, and at the Sydney Opera House as an actor with Opera Australia, and plans to record and release solo work in 2021.
