Matthias Kirste

Born near Berlin, Matthias Kirste has always been fascinated by images, be they moving or stills. When he got his first film-camera at the age of 15, he started to experiment with new visual styles, combining classic cinematic looks with more naturalistic lighting to create portraits of his friends and neighbors in everyday situations. After serving for a few years in a PsyOps unit of the German military, he started working as a freelance cinematographer and photographer. His portfolio ranges from portrait-photography to feature-films that won awards at many international festivals. Besides being a cinematographer, in recent years Kirste also started working as a director and producer, directing mainly advertising- and industrial films plus music videos.
