Anthony Z James was born in 1989 in Vilnius, Lithuania, during the last year of Soviet occupation. There he studied at the National Art School and then BA Film at the University of Westminster in London. After graduating as Art Director of the Student Oscar-winning film For Elsie (2011), Anthony entered the industry as a storyboard artist, collaborating with directors Kathryn Bigelow, Joseph Kosinski, Wally Pfister, Jonathan Glazer, Tarsem Singh, John Hillcoat, and Julia Ducournau. Since 2005 Anthony directed over a dozen shorts, including The Roof (2014), which after premiering at Raindance got picked up for distribution by Shorts International, and Day One (2018), which was developed into his debut feature Ghost (2020).
