Daniel Kruglikov comes from an immigrant family from former Soviet territories Ukraine and Russia. He grew up in the United States and graduated from New York University where he majored in Economics and European Studies. He went on to direct music videos for some of the biggest names in indie rock music, including Sean Lennon, The GOASTT, Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith. He wrote and directed two short films, 'Lula', and 'The Farewell', which have screened at film festivals around the world. In 2017 he co-authored a feature documentary about Romani communities which was commissioned by the European TV network ARTE and shot in seven countries in Eastern Europe called 'Princes Among Men'. In 2019 he completed his first feature film 'Drita', which he wrote and directed. The film, shot in Kosovo, is centered on the themes of vengeance and forgiveness, Executive-Produced by the great British contemporary artist and Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen. 'Drita' went on to win prizes at film festivals across the globe. Daniel premiered his latest film, a 12-minute experimental work/video art piece called 'Kilometer 4'- which was shot in Mogadishu, Somalia- at the Short Film Corner section of the Cannes Film Festival in June 2021. In 2021 Daniel directed his first opera production, Jacques Offenbach's celebrated classic 'Les Contes d'Hoffmann', at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, Russia- one of the world's preeminent institutions of classical music. This opera production, which was set in a mental institution, premiered in July 2021- months before Russia's invasion of Ukraine- and has won the Golden Sofit or "Golden Spotlight" award, St Petersburg's highest theatrical honor for best opera production of the 2021-22 season. Daniel lives and works in New York City.
