Rare Essence (also known as R.E.) is a Washington, D.C.-based go-go band that was formed in the 1970s. Led by guitarist Andre "White Boy" Johnson, the band performs regularly in the Washington metropolitan region. The group released their debut studio album Work the Walls in 1992, along with numerous live album, including the album Live at Breeze's Metro Club in 1987.
