Growing up in a single-parent household, Amir, like many others, faced adversity in his youth and had a hard time finding his niche in school. Amir credits his experiences in the streets and schools of Baltimore with helping shape his on-screen approach. After initially failing out of college, Amir joined the US Navy and participated in Operation Iraq Freedom. Upon returning, Amir returned to school and obtained his teaching certification. He taught Physical Education for six years in the Baltimore City School System, with the majority of that time at the only Level 5 (alternative) school in the city. During this time, Amir was cast in the multi-award winning independent film, "One Penny", which was shot in Baltimore, this experience launched Amir's ambition for film. After losing many of his students to gun violence and prison, Amir decided to move on from teaching and pursue his love of music and acting.
